As food prices continue to rise, Trinity United Church of Christ, 915 N. Main St., Akron, has gotten into the food co-op business as a way to ease the burden on consumers. It's even adopted a new motto: ''At the Heart of the Community With the Community at its Heart.''
''Trinity is partnering with a brand-new program, Great Food for All, to bring affordable food to local families,'' church spokeswoman Kristie Warner said.
''Great Food for All is a discount food program. It is available to everyone, regardless of income level. Each month, the Great Food for All team develops a menu for their Basic Food Big Box, as well as several special offers. The Big Box contains about 24 pounds of food, including meat, vegetables and fruit, all for a cost of only $30. The food has a retail value of $50 or more.''
Orders must be placed the middle of each month and prepaid (no personal checks). On distribution day, usually the fourth Saturday of the month, customers come to the church and pick up their box or boxes. Orders for the next month also can be placed at that time.
For information, call the church's Great Food for All coordinator, David Brown, at 330-376-7186 or e-mail him at GreatFoodTUCC@aol.com. You may download an order form from the next page.
